Billie Louise (Lewis) Owens of Peoria, AZ, peacefully passed to her heavenly home on March 12, 2017. She was born in Rush springs, OK, on November 3, 1922 to Newt L. Lewis and Lina Fletcher Sims. She lived the first 10 years of her life in Rush Springs and the next on the Rincon Mesa in Stanley, New Mexico where she graduated from high school as valedictorian. She met in New Mexico at the Santa Fe Fiesta, the love of her life Robert James Owens while working at the Woolworth's store.
They were married on December 13, 1942. Following her military husband and raising her children became her life while doing the Lord's work through ministering to others and teaching children's and ladies' Bible classes.
Billie was never happier than having a baby in her arms. Throughout her life she "adopted" many babies and adults and "claimed" them as her own. Her extended families are located throughout the United States.
She is survived by her children: daughters: Cheryl Ann Owens of Canon City, Colorado and Diane Celeste Owens of Peoria, AZ; son, Gerry (Karen) Robert Owens; 13 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; 6 great great grandchildren and an expected great great grandchild in April. She is also survived by 4 nieces; 8 nephews; and many special friends.
She is predeceased by her parents, husband, sisters Fern and Dorothy, brother Bertis, niece Patsy, daughter-in-law Anna and great great granddaughter Sophia Rose.
Throughout her life she worked as a Welcome Wagon hostess in Columbus, Ohio, as well as housewife and mother. She had membership in the Heritage Foundation and the Republican National Party and has supported many ministries' of the Church of Christ such as the Mountain States Children's Home of Longmont, Colorado and the New Mexico Children's Home of Portales, New Mexico. In lieu of flowers, the family ask that you make donations in her name to either of the children's homes or to the Hospice of the Valley in Peoria, AZ.
Viewing will be Sunday, March 19th from 1-5pm at Sunland Mortuary, 15826 Del Webb Blvd., Sun City, 85351. Memorial services will be Monday, March 20th at 10am at the West Olive Church of Christ, 10935 West Olive, Peoria, AZ 85345 with Ray Miller officiating. Interment will be at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona, 23029 N. Cave Creek, Phoenix, AZ 85024 at 2pm with her husband.
