Calvin Lawrence Drake

July 31, 1929October 11, 2020

Calvin Lawrence Drake crossed the veil to his eternal home on October 11, 2020 in Surprise Arizona. Calvin was born on July 31st, 1929 to Arthur and Lillian (Lawrence) Drake in Metuchen New Jersey. Ever-talented and intelligent, it is what happened in between those years that made a difference in the lives of his family and those who were blessed to know him. Always a quick learner, Calvin became a real jack of all trades, even building his own home at a young age. He was known for his creativity, integrity and dedication to his work and made a career of employing those skills. It wasn't until Calvin was in his 40s that his heart was finally won. Calvin met the love of his life, Patricia Ann McKenzie through some mutual friends. After a long distance letter-writing courtship, Calvin realized his life wouldn't be complete without his sweetheart and her two wonderful children. They were married in Proctor, Vermont on June 24th,1973. Cal was a valiant member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He met the missionaries and choosing to follow his Savior and join through the waters of baptism in 1975. He also was soon sealed to the love of his life for time and all eternity in the Washington DC Temple. Calvin blessed the lives of countless people though his church service- in which he served in many capacities. Calvin was passionate about his hobbies, which included woodworking, puzzles, stamps, gardening and baking (especially his all time favorite- chocolate chip cookies). He loved his family and is succeeded by his son Michael (Beth) Moser; daughter Cynthia (Mark) Busch, 17 grand children and an ever-growing heap of great-grandchildren. Though we will miss Cal immensely, we are so happy that he has begun this next chapter in his eternal story, joining his sweet wife on the other side of the veil. We are grateful for the knowledge that we have that families can be together forever and that we will be united with this amazing man again someday.

"It's you and me, kiddo."

I remember when I was a child Grampa and Grandma would come out from Arizona to visit us every couple of years. I did not realized that Grandpa loved to bake. When I was in my mission Grampa would make a plate of his famous chocolate chip cookies and mail them to me with a card and $5 dollar bill for milk. He would say you can’t have cookies without milk.
