Sun City - Courtney passed into the loving arms of his Savior Jesus Christ at his home on Saturday, Jan. 20, 2018. He was born Sept. 8, 1926 to Marva and Gratz Dalton in Long Beach, California and was raised by his mother and grandmother. He didn't know his father and was an only child. For most of his childhood Courtney lived in Carterville, MO and returned to Long Beach for his high school years.
He served in the US Navy 1944-1946 driving LCBs in the Pacific. When he returned, he spent several years working for a lumber company but his dream was to work in sales.
Courtney married Beverly Jean Nelson in 1954. She preceded him in death in December 2010. Courtney is survived by their three sons; Brent (Judi) Albuquerque, NM, Kyle (Melissa) Monterey, CA, and Kent (Dawna) Lakewood, CA, 5 grandchildren, and 5 great grandchildren. In 2012 he met and married Elda Kahlstorf. She survives him as do 2 stepchildren; Carolyn (Richard) Buquet, McKinney, TX and Lantz (Yvette) Trantham, Aurora, CO and 6 step grandchildren.
November 12, 1951 was the most significant day in his life when he accepted Jesus as his Savior and wrote out the plan of salvation many times so he could share it with others. He had great dedication to sharing his love for Jesus Christ with everyone he encountered.
Courtney was a bedding and upholstery supply salesman for Van Waters & Rogers for over 30 years. He had great love for his customers and was very successful because of his commitment to them.
He taught Sunday school to 8 and 9 year old boys for many years and eventually turned his attention to young married couples. Many of those became lifelong friends and are serving Christ to this day. It was not unusual to treat any of his friends to lunch and would often pay for a meal of someone sitting nearby, especially if they had children.
He was a great sports fan and attended many Rams & Dodger games with his best friend, Bill. He was also a fan of UCLA and named his favorite dog, Bruin.
Courtney was an avid golfer making at least 4 holes in one. After retiring, the family moved to Sun City West so he could play golf. He made many friends and golfing buddies over the years. They also made many friends when they became members of Grace Bible Church in Sun City. He was active by serving on the Elder Board, giving to missions, and starting several flock groups for fellowship and fun.
A Celebration of Life for Courtney will be held at Grace Bible Church, 19280 N 99th Ave, Sun City, AZ 85373 on Feb. 2, at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Grace Bible Church, Mission Fund.
