Courtney Evans DeWeese went to sit at the feet of Jesus on August 1, 2019. Courtney was born to Alden Carter and Emma Lea (Owens) DeWeese on August 6, 1924 in Keytesville, Chariton County, Missouri. On March 22, 1943, he was inducted into the U.S. Army, and served until January 6, 1946. Serving during WWII, he was awarded the Good Conduct Medal and 2 Bronze Stars. On April 22, 1946, he married the love of his life and high school sweetheart, Mary Lucerne (Lucy) DeWeese.
Courtney loved the Lord, attending and volunteering at church. His favorite things to do were reading and studying the Bible, traveling, playing cards, music, working with electronic equipment, visiting and helping friends and family with everyday things and supporting them in various ways. He loved working in his career. He retired from the American Breeders Service and from both the Federal and County governments where he worked in different capacities. After official retirement, he and his wife relocated from Missouri to Surprise, Arizona and he was employed as a security gate guard at the Happy Trails Resort. Finally, at the age of 87, he regretfully stopped working for wages. Courtney was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Lucy, his younger brother, Bobby, and his grandson, Matthew. He is survived by two daughters; Pamela (Danny) Stacy of Surprise Arizona, and Patricia Mangrum of Branson Missouri; 1 granddaughter, 3 great granddaughters, and 2 great-great granddaughters.A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. August 19, 2019 at Grand Community Baptist Church, 18350 W Goldwater Ridge Dr., Surprise, AZ 85374. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Hospice of the Valley, www.hov.org/donate.
