David E. Lockwood of Freedom Plaza, Peoria, AZ, passed away June 29th, peacefully, in his sleep, at home, in his bed at the age of 102. He was born in Bay Township, Ottawa, Ohio, on his grandfather's farm.
He was an immensely proud WWII veteran, who enlisted in the Army Air Corps in 1940, retiring in 1964 from the USAF, after serving 22 years, with the rank of Chief Warrant Officer 3. His highest military award was the Air Force Commendation Medal, among many others.
He worked for Hewlett Packard, in Colo. Springs in 1971 for several years, then went on to serve as financial officer and deacon in the First Christian Church, Colo. Springs.
He was preceded in death by the love of his life, of over 50 years, Vera Lockwood, two older brothers, Harley Lockwood Jr. of Tempe, Az., Paul R. Lockwood of Oak Harbor, Ohio, and a sister Clara, thirteen of Oak Harbor. Two sons, Donald Lockwood, who died in Vietnam, while serving in the USAF, and Jerry Lockwood, a US Navy Veteran, from Fremont, Calif., a grandson, Billy Rutherford of Ennis, Texas, a great grandson, Ryan Wagliardo of Ennis.
Survived by daughter, Susan Rutherford, and husband Glenn, of Sandia Park, NM, A stepson, Al Sovereign, and wife Ina, of Cottonwood, AZ., a stepdaughter, Shirley Hinton, of Elma, Washington. Four grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren. A nephew, Paul Lockwood, and wife Cathy, of Oak Harbor, Ohio and niece, Priscilla Lockwood, of BC.
His hobbies were golf, Wii bowling with friends, reading and being an accomplished woodworker.
In lieu of flowers, he would greatly appreciate donations in his name to the Freedom Plaza Scholarship fund, St. Mary's Food Bank or the Salvation Army, all dear to his heart.
He outlived many friends and family and chose cremation and the scatter garden of Sunland Memorial Park in Sun City. Memorial service will be held at Freedom Plaza, in the Chapel, Fri. July 2nd, at 10am with Al Kurz officiating.
