Dennis Clark Lund, warmly known to many as "Dennie," departed this world on June 12, 2025, in Sun City, Arizona. He passed away peacefully following a courageous battle with Amyloidosis. At the age of 85, Dennie left behind a legacy of love, kindness, and joy that will not soon be forgotten. Known for his unconditional love, commitment, and playful spirit, Dennis touched the lives of many and will be deeply missed by family and friends.
Born on April 2, 1940, on the family farm in Swea City, Iowa, Dennis was the cherished son of Harry and Ethel Lund. He spent his childhood helping around the farm and excelling on the basketball court, graduating from Swea City High School in 1957. Dennie's passion of basketball carried him to Upper Iowa University then he pursued a degree in Education and discovered his lifelong dedication to shaping young lives.
His path soon led him to love. In 1961, he married Kathryn Stevens, affectionately known as Kathy. Their union was inseparable, marked by five decades of unwavering devotion. Early in their marriage, Dennie and Kathy embarked on a bold adventure, relocating from rural Iowa to bustling Los Angeles, California, to become high school teachers for the Los Angeles Unified School District. Both earned Masters Degrees in Education at California Lutheran College, proudly forging a life of fulfillment and friendship under the California sunshine. They avidly enjoyed body surfing, camping, and countless beach gatherings as they were always surrounded by close friends and laughter.
Their family became complete when their beloved son, Clark Dennis Lund, arrived in 1969, bringing endless joy into each of their lives. In 1978, they moved once more, settling in Lake Havasu, Arizona. Dennis began a successful real estate career, while Kathy returned to teaching before building her own State Farm Agency. After Kathy’s passing in 2014, Dennis found happiness again through his devoted partner, Jary Sue Shepard, who walked faithfully beside him for another 10 beautiful years until his final moments.
Dennie loved nothing more than spending quality time with family. Whether he was captivating his grandchildren Matthew, Allyson, and Abigayle with vibrant stories, boating on the serene lake, or simply enjoying time with his nearest and dearest, Dennie was the heart of every gathering. His life echoed a fierce devotion to his loved ones and a deep faith in Christ, which extended to those fortunate enough to call him mentor and friend.
Dennis is survived by his devoted and loving partner, Jary Shepard, son Clark and daughter-in-law Paige, his precious grandchildren, his sister Lynette and her son, Scott. Dennis is now joyfully reunited with his beloved Kathy as well as his loving parents, Harry and Ethel, in Heaven.
