Although I haven't seen Don for several years I'll always remember him from our Pin Krackers Bowling League.  Don was one of the nicest men I ever met, and it was always a pleasure to bowl with him. We sure had some fun times, and good memories.  
So, Don while your up there with the Lord say hi to my Cathi who passed away last July. When we meet again hopefully we can bowl a few games together.

I'll remember my Uncle Don as a wonderful big brother to my mother and a kind uncle who had a twinkle in his eye and who was just a wee bit competitive in card games. I'll always wish we lived closer, but we had great family visits in Arizona and here in Michigan.  I've grown up with so many lovely stories from my mom about how dear her brother was to her and I'll forever treasure those memories. We are heartsick here in Michigan that we cannot be with you all, but you are in our thoughts and we are right next to you in spirit. I want to share something that I hope is not too irreverent. When I heard my Uncle Don had passed it occurred to me that heaven gained two great Scotsman that day. I can see them both at the gate and can quite distinctly hear Sean Connery say "After you, sir.". It made me smile. 

My brother, Don, was the greatest brother a sister could hope for. He was kind, good-natured and always willing to help me in any way. He always had a smile and a joke or two. Don was an avid sports fan. He once even attended two sporting events in one day … the Detroit Lions vs. the Green Bay Packers and the Detroit Red Wings vs. Montreal. 

He often visited Olympia Stadium to watch the Red Wings practice, and even struck up a few friendships. Imagine his delight when he happened to run into forward Ted Lindsey one day. I still remember how pleased he was when Ted called out, “Hey, Don! Good to see you.” Don’s friends were impressed! Don shared his love of hockey with me each winter when we would play on our icy Detroit street (and he always insisted I play goalie!) 

Don enjoyed every sport; he ran cross-country and excelled as a quarter-miler. He always encouraged me to be an active participant in our neighborhood teams, even boasting about my baseball skills to his friends.

Don and I always had a great time. He was a wonderful brother … always happy, teasing and fun-loving. I will always treasure our memories.



Although it breaks my heart not to be able to be there for my Uncle Don’s funeral due to this COVID pandemic I still want to share my thoughts and prayers with my family and friends. My Uncle Don is my mother’s only sibling and I grew up with my mom sharing wonderful memories of her brother. I also remember visits with Scott, Todd, Uncle Don and Aunt Marlene at our childhood home in Livonia before they moved to Arizona. I moved to Arizona in 1997, during the 10 years I lived there I was blessed to live near my Uncle Don and Aunt Marlene. They were the only MacLeod family I had in Arizona. After I had my children, my Uncle Don and Aunt Marlene treated them like their own grandchildren. Every time we got together at their house or mine they would get down on the floor and play with the kids. I am so thankful my children were able to have a relationship and such fun memories of times spent with them.  Some of their favorite memories are when Uncle Don would take the kids for rides on the golf cart and chase quail in the back yard. It was amazing to have them close when I was so far away from my Michigan family. I will be forever grateful I got to spend those 10 years in Arizona with my Uncle Don. I am also thankful that my kids, my mom and I have all become better Euchre players because of him! I was able to visit Arizona in 2018 and went to visit with my Uncle Don and Aunt Marlene. I  really don't have a memory of my Uncle Don where he isn't laughing, usually about a childhood story my mom was sharing.  Don and Marlene are my godparents and they always made me feel special.  My sisters and I grew up with stories of Mom's wonderful brother. Those stories most likely shaped my parenting style; I raised my son to be the brother that Don was to Dorothy. I raised  Drew to respect and honor his little sister Cady, and he always has. I have Uncle Don to thank for that. I will always love and miss him.

My grandma always talked about her "hero big brother" and I loved watching them interact when Uncle Don visited Michigan. It always seemed like they were kids again, bickering and teasing. He had a bright smile, laughed easily, and talked to my brothers and I like he would talk to adults, which we always appreciated. My heart breaks for my family's loss; he will be deeply missed.

I always think of what a kind and compassionate man Uncle Don was. He was always so happy to see you. Both he and Aunt Marlene were at my wedding and spent time with me as a child. They have always been close to my parents and loved to watch college football. I remember when ASU played Michigan in the Rose Bowl. I wrapped my Christmas presents for Aunt Marlene and Uncle Don in ASU wrapping paper. I gave them ASU bumper stickers. 💖
