Donald was born on January 26, 1935 in Tarrytown New York to Hector McRae McLean and Olive Lillian Brown. He was raised on the Rockefeller Estates in Pocantico Hills New York.His siblings were Hector, Margaret, James, Alex, Jessie, Olive and Beatrice.
He attended Washington Irving High school and excelled in all Varsity sports. He earned a Master’s Mechanic Degree from the NYC Mechanics Institute.
He married Janis Dean Harris from North Tarrytown New York in 1955. He was happily married for 67 years. They raised Donald Jr , Gary Edwin and Jan Ellen in Yorktown Heights New York and Glendale Arizona.
He served in the US Army and was deployed to Germany during the Hungarian Border crisis.
He was a Professional Pipe Fitter. Serving in Leadership roles with United Pipe Fitters Association for over 60 years. He furthered his Technical expertise through instruction at Purdue University. Apprentice Lead in the Westchester County NY area teaching the Trade to United Association of Plumbers and Steam Fitters (Local 299) members. His Leadership and Technical expertise was demonstrated in the building of the Pale Verde Nuclear plant.
He is survived by his loving wife Janis, sons Donald Jr ( Kim) and Gary ( Michele) Daughter Jan Ellen; Grandchildren: Heather (Scott),Jamie (Danny), Ryan, Greg, Jennifer, Kylie, Collin, Johnny and Kyle ; Great Grandchildren: Ava , Lilly and Jackson. He was adored by his family.

Donald has been laid to rest in National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona, Phoenix, AZ.
