 I was born to this lovely lady on a fall night in 1953. I was her first of three daughters and one son. We grew up  in the suburbs of Los Angeles. Mom loved to laugh, pose for photographs, and to have a menagerie of animals in the house.  During the 19 years I lived at home before joining the Air Force, we had three dogs, two cats, a parakeet, a turtle, goldfish, and a horny toad.    

Mom loved to cook, sew, and participate in the PTA.  I’m truly grateful that she taught me how to keep a clean house, set a table for guests  (I had to read Amy Vanderbilt’s Complete Book of Etiquette), and how to do as I’m told and not talk back, which served me well during my 20 years in the service. 

 Four years ago, I decided to move three miles away from mom to spend quality time with her, as she had been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease the previous year.   Every other weekend, mom would come and stay at my house and watch TV and play with my cat.  We had always loved to go out to dinner, so we did that as often as we could. One night I went into the guest bedroom to kiss mom and tell her good night and when I told her I loved her, she told me she loved me more for the first time ever.  I felt truly loved and warm inside. I will always remember that moment.

 Thank you for bringing me into this world so that when you set me free, I’d be able to make a positive difference in other people’s lives.
