Dorothea was 92 ½ years old when she was taken to heaven on May 17th, 2019. She graduated from Scranton High School in Pennsylvania in May 1944. This was a perilous time in our country and it had a profound effect on Dorothea and her fellow man. A staunch supporter of the unborn, a tireless volunteer her whole life for children, adult and senior citizen alike. Dorothea typically led all volunteer associations and clubs she was associated with in her tireless hours in Catholic Daughters of America, and hospice related duties. She once gave up her ticket to sit in the presentation line of 100 volunteers serving Christ in 1987 at ASU stadium when the POPE visited Arizona to a senior citizen, who happened to be in a wheelchair sitting two rows behind her. Voted Maricopa County’s tri-city volunteer of the year in the 80’s while serving on the church council of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Tempe, Arizona she brought her unselfish spirit of goodwill to the Sun City area in the 1990’s and continued her work in this regard as a member of Saint Clement Rome Catholic Church and was active in the church choir there for years. Upon moving to Royal Oak Retirement Center in Sun City she was continually active as a hospice volunteer logging in more hours than any other volunteer at that facility.
Her children owe their religious zeal in their faith to her. She was married to her first husband Gildo Scatena for fifty years before he passed away in September 1996 and was widowed from her husband of four years Frank O’Shaughnessy in December 2014. She is survived by her sons Allen (71) and Wesley (61) and their wives Brenda and Jeanne respectively. She is also survived by her daughter Andrea (69) and her husband Bob, as well as her youngest daughter Althea (57). She has 10-grandchildren, and numerous greatgrandchildren, loving nieces and nephews. Her two brothers and one sister are pre-deceased, as Dorothea was the last of her generation of children in the Kambouris family. Viewing and Mass services are being held at Saint Thomas More Catholic Church, in Glendale, Arizona on Wednesday, May 29th, 2019 at 9:30 AM. Burial interment services are being held by Sunland Memorial Park, Mortuary and Cremation Center, in Sun City, Arizona.
