Douglas Lutz, age 78, passed away on Thursday, March 18, 2021, after a valiant battle against cancer. Born in North Dakota in 1942, Doug married his wife, Margaret in 1961. Doug attended Valley City State Teachers’ College and North Dakota State University.
Seeking a warmer climate, Doug brought his family to Bullhead City in 1971. Doug became the principal of the new Bullhead City Junior High and was the Superintendent of the Bullhead City School District for 25 years. After retiring, Doug served as Bullhead City’s Public Works Director where he helped design and develop Rotary Park. Recently, Doug served on the Bullhead City School board.
Living in Bullhead City for 50 years, Doug had great memories from boating on the river, house boating on Lake Mohave, golfing at Chaparral Country Club, and many evenings at the Laughlin casinos. Doug especially loved basketball and enjoyed watching his three children play sports in the Bullhead City community and at Mohave High School.
Doug is survived by his wife, Margaret; son, Todd (Susan); son, Troy (Jessica); daughter, Sheri (Peter); brother, Lowell (Lona); two sisters, Sandy (John) and Patty (Don); 9 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; and many friends. Doug is preceded in death by his parents and older brother, Gary.
A gathering of friends will be held in late spring and a memorial bench will be placed in the Rotary Park to commemorate Doug’s love for and service to the community. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributing to the Doug Lutz Memorial Scholarship for Educators fund at:
