Retired Homemaker Edna K. Schaal, nee Settles, of Phoenix died November 2, 2014 at Glencroft Care Center in Glendale. She was 92. The daughter of Paul and Gertrude Settles, Mrs. Schaal was born December 29, 1921 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Mrs. Schaal graduated from Tulsa's Will Rogers High School in 1940 and did clerical work for the United States government during World War II. In 1946 she married Marvin Schaal, a 25 year old decorated combat veteran and expert mechanic. In 1961 they moved with their two children, Paul and Sandra, to Phoenix where Mr. Schaal was service manager for large trucking concerns. The Schaals celebrated 59 years of marriage before Mr. Schaal's death in 2005. Mrs. Schaal was a longtime member of Royal Palms Baptist Church in Phoenix. Her late brother, Wayne Settles of Houston, died in 1997. Mrs. Schaal is survived by her sister Pauline Hetzel of Midwest City, Oklahoma; daughter Sandra Simpson of Glendale and son Paul Schaal of Phoenix; grandchildren Jennifer Desmond, Nicole Schaal, Phillip Simpson, William Simpson, Amanda Schaal, and Andrew Simpson; and three great grandchildren.
