Edward R. Mercer, Sr. went to be with the Lord on September 8, 2020 at his home in Sun City West. Ed passed in the arms of the love of his life, his wife Twylia, of 61 Blessed years. Ed was born in Cresap, West Virginia on September 16, 1935 to his parents, Russell and Mary Mercer.

Ed served in the Naval Reserves and the US Army. He was in the restaurant business for over 25 years beginning with Sambo's, then as a Supervisor for a restaurant chain, and last but not least, Mercer's Restaurant in Peoria.

Ed and Twylia were blessed with being able to travel and Ed's favorite trip was the Holy Land, where his dream came true to ride a camel.

Ed was a faithful member of the Surprise Church of Christ and served the Lord for 60 years, always being active in God's work until Alzheimers ravaged his body. With the struggle of Alzheimers, Ed was a great example as a Christian as to how he handled the declines, giving thanks to God for each day and having such a positive attitude.

Ed is survived by his wife Twylia, 2 son's Ed Jr. (Helen), Dean (Patricia), 7 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents and brother James.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Cleo Roberts Alzheimers Research: 10515 Sante Fe Dr., Sun City, AZ 85351 or to Surprise Church of Christ: 14925 W. Silverleaf Way, Surprise, AZ 85374.

Aunt Twylia, Eddie, and Dean.
I am sorry I can not be there with you to share in the celebration of life and mourn the passing of Uncle Ed. I have many fond memories of our visits in Ohio and AZ. The wonderful personality and hospitality that he showed made you feel at home. Our faith gives us hope, and I'm sure there was a pretty good reunion of the Mercer men, (Pap, Ed and Jim) in heaven. I know you will cherish your memories of him. He left a legacy for you and your families, I hope your children will be able to continue it.
God bless you and prayers for peace and comfort in the days ahead.
Randy

We did not know you personally but you have left a legacy of a wonderful life and a beautiful family. May you rest comfortably in his loving arms and your family be comforted knowing you are at peace. May the Lord wrap his loving arms around your family and give them peace and strength.

I had the absolute privilege of meeting Ed aka Handsome at the beauty salon where I work. I loved his stories of how he meet Twylia and the journey of their beautiful love story. God has truly gained another beautiful angel. Much love Sue aka Goodlookin
