Elinor Todd, age 96, passed away on Monday, July 13th, 2020 at her residence in Peoria, Arizona. She was born on December 13th, 1923 in South Norfolk, Virginia to Elisha and Cecelia “Maude” Dowdy. Her cremains will be placed with her late husband at Cedar Lawn Memorial Park in Roanoke, Virginia.
She grew up in Norfolk, where she met and married Donald Louis Todd in 1943 and had three children that were raised in Roanoke. She was a stay-at-home mom to her children, and as a family, they all enjoyed any kind of board and card games. She loved God, church, friends, and family, and was especially close to her only sibling - her sister Dorothy Hobbs, who lived in Virginia Beach, Virginia.
She was an animal lover and a smile would appear whenever she saw one coming - it was not uncommon for her to send them birthday cards as well! She loved music, especially hymns, and sang in the church choir on Sundays. Alone, or with others, she would spend hours working jigsaw and crossword puzzles. More recently, we got her an iPad, where she became addicted to FreeCell - an online card game.
After her children were grown, she took art lessons and had a special talent for canvas painting. Her other hobby was hand-made crystal or beaded ornaments and knick-knacks that she sold or gave away, usually around Christmas time.
For the last seven years, she lived in Arizona to be near her grandchildren. Until recently, she resided in an independent retirement home where she made lasting friendships - most notably with Stephanie, Lillian, and Linda, who will never be forgotten by her family - it was a common sight to see her and her friends sitting at the table on the second floor playing Kings in the Corner. It was also in this facility where she and all her friends were able to enjoy the live music of the Desert Winds Steel Orchestra, as her youngest daughter was one of the members. They would play there regularly once or twice a year, and she was so proud and happy to be a part of that! She was known for her charming smile and enthusiastic demeanor - always cheerful and bright, with energy to spare, and she never lost her quick wit and sense of humor.
She is survived by her two daughters Donna Todd of Fort Lauderdale, Florida and Dottie Todd Clubb of Phoenix, Arizona and daughter-in-law Sandy Todd of Stafford, Virginia; grandsons Jerry Jr, Jason, and Jonathan Clubb, and great-grandson Evan Clubb. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Todd and son Michael Todd.
Because of the current situation of the world, there will be no gravesite service in Virginia as previously planned. Please pay your respects by leaving a memory or condolence for her family on this website.
