

Elizabeth Ruth Foley, last remaining child of pioneering Arizona couple Eugene and Mary C. Hannum has on the 30th day of January 2012, departed this life. She was born on November 27, l925 in Douglas, Arizona. Her father was a retired US Calvary Officer, a veteran of the Spanish American War, the Philippine Insurrection and World War I as well as serving in the 9-month long pursuit of Poncho Villa in 1916 with the US Army's General John J. Pershing. Elizabeth, the middle child of seven, contributed a considerable volume of research, unique historical photographs and records to the Arizona Historical Society from her father's memorabilia.
Elizabeth was the wife of Leland L. Foley, mother of Robert L. Foley, stepmother of Kenneth E. Foley, Wayne Foley, Caroline Foley Colvin, and Sondra Foley Martin, grandmother to Dustan Foley and Lisa Richmier and several others, great grandmother and the beloved aunt and great aunt of numerous nieces and nephews.
Elizabeth and Leland were married for more than 50 years. They owned and operated two ranches and two farms. In 1947, Elizabeth graduated from Good Samaritan School of Nursing. She worked at the Cochise County Hospital and later rose to the position of Head Surgical Nurse at Good Samaritan Hospital where she helped design its current surgical suites. She was a member of the Arizona State Board of Nursing and served as the National Treasurer of the American Association of Operating Room Nurses. She received international recognition for her professional accomplishments and Publications.
She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, 7205 N. 55th Avenue, Glendale, Az 85301.
Memorial Services will be at St. John's Lutheran Church at 11 AM on the morning of the 25 of February 2012.
