Gary Gene Bockelman

Gary Gene Bockelman, loving father, grandfather, brother and friend sadly left us on Tuesday, August 8, 2023 at the age of 80. Gary is survived by his Daughter Christy Jo Heritage, Son-in-Law Stephen Heritage, Granddaughters Megan Kay Heritage and Makenna Jo Heritage, former spouse Susie Bockelman, Brother Dennis Edward Bockelman and Sister-in-Law Judy Bockelman.

Gary was born the younger of two boys to Edward and Jean Bockelman in Hiram, Ohio on October 4, 1942. He spent many years living in Ohio where he told stories of precious family moments, shenanigans with cousins and friends, and hard work.

In 1972 Gary moved to Phoenix, Arizona where he pursued his truck driving career (fitting for a man with the birthday 10-4). “Hammer”, as he would come to be known, worked for various construction companies throughout the Valley eventually building his own business Bockelman Trucking. Gary’s life is a perfect example of a person without a degree accomplishing so many dreams through hard work, dedication and perseverance.

When he retired in 2006, he spent his remaining years cherishing time with family, spoiling his dogs, playing golf and/or sharing a drink or two with friends. A special thank you to A family Affair Assisted living which cared for Gary in his final days.
