She was born on September 25, 1928, in El Paso, Tx. to Helen and John C. Dickenson. She graduated from Austin High School in 1944 and attended the University of North Texas in Denton, Tx. Genevieve graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Texas College of Mines in El Paso, in 1949, where she was also an active member of Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority. She married the love of her life, Raymond Sewell of Clint, Tx. on August 5, 1949, and together they raised 2 children.
Genevieve held a variety of professional educational positions in New Mexico and Texas and received numerous educational excellence awards and accolades during her 29 year plus career. She also received her Master’s degree in education and later became a recognized K-6 administrator for the Ysleta Independent School District in El Paso, Tx. before retiring. She and her husband moved to Ruidoso, NM and lived there for 12 years before moving to Arizona.
She will be forever remembered as a devoted and loving wife, mother, great cook, and teacher. She will be dearly missed by her son Wayne Sewell (wife Terry), Scottsdale, Az., and daughter, MarLynn Spears of Phoenix, Az., and many loving friends and relatives. Her husband predeceased her on July 20, 2016.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, or Banner Alzheimer’s Foundation in her memory.
