Glen Clayton Forney

Glen was born on May 18, 1923 in Wayne, NE, the son of George Harvey and Muriel Julia Weatherhead Forney. He married Virginia Margaret Kempton on October 15, 1947 in Omaha, NE; she preceded him in death on May 27, 2016. They would have been married 69 years this past October.

Glen was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during WWII from 1943-1946. He was a Sergeant in the Headquarters Battery in the 883rd Field Artillery Battalion 70th Infantry Division. He received the American Theater Service Medal, European African Middle Eastern Theater Service Medal and a good conduct Medal.

Glen spent many years working on a farm in Iowa before moving to Kansas in 1956 to work for Boeing Military Aircraft Company. In 1961 he and Virginia bought Southvue Trailer Park in Derby, KS. After selling the trailer park in 1966 they moved to Wichita where he worked for Vulcan Materials in Clearwater where he retired in 1985. He and Virginia then moved to Arizona where they enjoyed their retirement years.

He had a strong faith and enjoyed attending church every Sunday. He was a member of the Crown of Life Lutheran Church in Sun City West. It wasn't until the last 3-5 years when Virginia wasn’t able to attend that he wasn’t able to go either. However, the pastor came to their home at Ventana Winds and gave them communion.

He was also preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Virgil Forney; and one sister, Mona Shields.

He is survived by three daughters: Gayle (Charles) Stewart of Oklahoma City, OK; Shiela Chapman, of Euless, TX; and Karen (Richard) Warren of Prescott, AZ; one sister, Virginia Baggs; six grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, December 16, 2016 at Sunland Memorial Park, 15826 N. Del Webb Blvd, Sun City, AZ 85351 with Pastor Phil Robbins officiating. Private entombment will follow.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Crown of Life Lutheran Church, 13131 Spanish Garden Dr., Sun City West, AZ 85375 or the choice of the donor.
