Gloria D'Angelico was born in Queens, NY, on May 13, 1946. She passed away on Monday, June 24, 2024, in her home after battling dementia. She was 78 years old.
Gloria is survived by her two children, Stacy and James, and her grandchildren, Ashley and Thomas. She is also survived by her brother George, his wife Isabel, nieces Stephanie and May, and nephew Michael.
Gloria was born in Queens, grew up in Jersey City, raised her kids in Bloomfield, NJ, and finally put herself first and moved to Phoenix, AZ, where she could enjoy the over 300 days of sun that she loved so much.
She was a hero to her kids! After divorcing her husband and being a stay-at-home Mom, she worked hard to create a career for herself and her kids. She lived in a two-family family house with the support of her parents, took classes, and became an underwriter. She worked hard, climbing up the ladder to provide for her family, going from a stay-at-home Mom to an insurance company vice president. She was the Mom who showed up for every game and every recital, the Mom who knew having dinner together was important, the Mom who we could talk to about anything, who our friends spoke to, she was the Mom who supported anything we wanted to do as kids and into our adult years. She was a very proud Mom!
Gloria was the person who took care of everyone. Retiring early due to health issues, she was able to help her daughter raise her Granddaughter Ashley. After her Mom could no longer live on her own, she moved in with Gloria, who took care of her until she passed away at the age of 97 in 2021.
Being a grandmother to Ashley and Thomas was a highlight of her life. She always lit up when they were around; you could see it in her face when talking about them. Her house was a house we all got together at often, and she loved it when they were there.
She loved the beach, vacations, running, Boxer dogs, and puttering around her yard. She was strong-willed and stubborn, but those traits defined Gloria. They were part of who she was; her strength undoubtedly helped her deal with life's challenges. Gloria will be remembered for how much she loved her family, and if you knew her, you knew it! Gloria was diagnosed with dementia in 2020, but her humor and sarcastic, strong-willed personality remained until the very end.
As Gloria would have it, there will not be traditional services planned. A celebration of life will occur with details to be determined, and as she wanted, her ashes will be scattered on the beaches of St. Pete Beach, Fl. St. Pete was a special place where she vacationed with her kids and family, with many good memories, and where she could enjoy where she loved to be the most: on the beach, near the ocean. Words cannot express how much we will miss her!
