

The Rev. Dr. Irvin S. Mitchell, 78, of Sun City, Arizona passed away on Friday February 8, 2013. He was born in West Chester, Pennsylvania. In his teens he moved to Kittanning, Pennsylvania. He attended Point Park Jr. College, and was a graduate of Indiana University of Pennsylvania, Virginia Theological Seminary and Texas Christian University.
Rev. Dr. Mitchell worked in the insurance industry and served as a volunteer fireman and later Fire Chief in Kittanning before being called to minister as a priest. Father Irv served the Episcopal parishes of St. Paul's in Winslow, Arizona, St. Barnabas of the Desert in Scottsdale, Arizona, and St. Andrew's in Fort Worth, Texas. He was rector and headmaster at St. Alban's in Arlington, Texas, and rector at St. Paul's in Gainesville, Texas before becoming rector of All Saints on the Desert Episcopal Church in Sun City.
In retirement he continued ministering at Christ Church of the Ascension in Paradise Valley and All Saint's Episcopal Church on Central Ave. in Phoenix. The Rev. served as Chaplin for the Sun City Fire Department from 1986 up to his death. He also was as an elected member of the Fire Board in Sun City from 1992 to 2012, many of those years presiding as Chairman.
Rev. Dr. Mitchell is survived by his beloved wife of nearly 60 years, Loretta S. Mitchell; sons, Irvin R. Mitchell, Mark Alan Mitchell and his wife Kathy; brother, Walter S. Mitchell; sister, Mary Frederick and grandson, Bryson G. Mitchell.
Service will be held at 1:00pm Thursday February 14, 2013 at All Saints of the Desert Episcopal Church, 9502 Hutton Dr., Sun City, AZ 85351 623-974-8404.
