Jack Irwin Lichtman passed away peacefully on the evening of August 4, 2026, surrounded by family. He is survived by his daughter, Marla; son-in-law, Phil; son, Michael; and grandchildren, Jessica, Julia, Jacqueline, Rachael, and Brent.
Jack is preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Sandra; his daughter, Ann and his parents Ben & Lillian Lichtman He leaves behind a legacy full of love, laughter, and lots (and lots) of paintings.
Jack was born in Chicago, Illinois, where he eventually joined the U.S. Army and met his wife, Sandra. Sandy and Jack, who were affectionately known as Nana and Papa, were married for over 50 years and had three children: Anne (d. 1965), Michael (b. 1966), and Marla (b. 1972).
Jack enjoyed a long career as a baker and owning Bryn Mawr Bakery in Chicago. When he wasn’t busy baking or spending time with family and a wide array of friends, he was picking up hobbies that included bowling, painting, and going for rides along the lakefront.
Jack and Sandy moved out to Arizona in 2014, where they spent the last years of their lives in close proximity to Marla and the girls loving the desert. After Sandy passed in 2017, Jack continued his adventurous life with his partner, Gladys Metzger, before her passing in 2025. Jack and Gladys enjoyed a long list of activities, including working out at Life Time Fitness, taking line dancing classes, and following their favorite artist, George Strait, to different concert venues across Arizona and Nevada. Jack kept everyone, especially Marla and Phil, on their feet with his many artistic avenues, including his newfound love of painting. His paintings brought an endless amount of joy and healing to those who were gifted with one. Jack often drew inspiration from his favorite artist, Bob Ross, and some of his favorite subjects included birds, horses, and shoes (for his girls) on a sky backdrop.
Jack leaves behind a life and a legacy full of love and an influence that will never be forgotten.
