James LeRoy Crenshaw “Jimmy” was born April 27, 1935 in Dallas, Texas to his late parents Cornelius and Elizabeth. At age 9 Jimmy and his family moved to San Francisco, California.
He attended St. Peter’s and Morning Star Elementary Schools before he decided that he preferred public schools. Jimmy transferred to Marina Junior High and went on to Galileo High School where he was an outstanding athlete in football, basketball and baseball. He was Student Body Vice President and his class Salutatorian.
Jimmy enlisted in the United States Air Force, served as a Military Policeman and received an honorable discharge. During his enlistment he served overseas, primarily in North Africa. After returning to civilian life he attended San Francisco City College and continued his education while employed as a Correctional Officer with the California Youth Authority. Jimmy retired from CYA after 27 years of service.
Jimmy was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, son-in-law, and friend.
He leaves to cherish his memories his loving and devoted wife, Betty - 47 years of marriage; daughters Pamela Carter (Joe), Asa Zuberi, Patti Bidgood (Steve); grandchildren Erica Richardson (Tony), Jaime and Cheyenne Carter, Alexandra, Corinne, and Daniella Bidgood; great-grandchildren Kyron and Kaleel Richardson, Kamora Carter, Kazhani Carter . Jimmy is also survived by his sisters Jessie Thrash (Paul), Betty Bee; brothers Cornelius Crenshaw (Jerry), and Donald Crenshaw (Kathy) and a host of other family and dear friends.
