James, better known as Jim, was a devoted husband (Sandra), doting father to his chihuahuas (Maya and Toby), beloved son (Rosemarie Canning), exceptional brother (Joe, Luke, and Tom),
and an amazing friend to many. He is preceded in death by his wife (Sandra), father (James),grandparents (Honey and Peeps), and Aunt (Cathy), with whom he will be resting in the crypts at Sunland Memorial Park.
Jim was born in Flushing, NY, and grew up on Long Island. After graduating high school, he moved to AZ with Honey and Peeps and remained here until his passing. He worked as a Correctional Officer in prisons for over 15 years, then transitioned to behavioral health, first as a behavior coach for students with emotional and behavioral disabilities. He ultimately transitioned to Southwest Behavioral Health and worked his way up to program coordinator, overseeing 5 programs.
Jim was open to many beliefs, especially about Bigfoot, aliens, and ghosts. He loved Batman and the Minions. He never passed up a tasty sweet treat or a cup of coffee, iced or hot. Sedona
was his favorite place to visit and is the background of the picture the family has shared. He
loved art in general and taught himself to paint, even selling some of his pieces, but he usually gave them to friends and kept a few favorites for himself.
Jim was faithful to his God and Savior, Lord Jesus Christ. His faith carried him through life, especially for the eight months after Sandra passed and while suffering with the pain and agony of cancer in the last 5 weeks before he passed. The Last Rites were spoken to him 2 days before he left us here in human form. His body is healed. He is no longer in pain. He has been reunited with the love of his life and will be missed by everyone who had the chance to know him.
