

John Hampton Norman (Jack) of Sun City West, Arizona died March 7, 2015. He was 89. Born May 6, 1925 in Street, Maryland, he was the son of Ray C. Norman and Helene Dunnigan Norman and the husband of 60 years of Betty Ann McComas Norman, who passed away a month after John on April 4, 2015. Also surviving John was his brother, Richard M. Norman.
Mr. Norman graduated from Highland High School. He attended Johns Hopkins University on a scholarship and was accepted in the United States Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point, New York, graduating as a Commissioned Officer in the U. S. Naval Reserve and a U. S. Maritime Officer. He sailed during World War II assigned to cargo vessels carrying ammunition and aircraft to Europe. After World War II, he was employed as Chief Officer on various cargo/passenger ships, sailing to many parts of the world. He was always interested in aviation and owned an airplane before he owned a car and kept it on his Dad’s farm. John married Betty Ann McComas in 1954 and they purchased the Aldino Airport offering instruction, rental, charter and aircraft sales. They enjoyed traveling the USA and Canada in their planes as well as traveling to Europe, Central America, Hawaii and Alaska.
They moved to Sun City West, Arizona in 1993 and enjoyed living and traveling in Arizona. Mr. Norman had many interests as well as aviation, Amateur Radio, photography, computer memorabilia.
A Memorial service for both John Hampton and Betty Sue Norman will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, April 20, 2015 at Sunland Memorial Park Mortuary-Lakeside Chapel, 15826 Del Webb Blvd, Sun City, AZ 85351. Online condolences may be sent to www.sunlandmemorial.com
