

He and his wife moved to Arizona 28 years ago. Joe served in the U.S. Air Force and then went on to pastor, co-pastor or serve in many Baptist churches in the Midwest, South and Southwest, including Superstition Foothills Baptist, Brown Road Baptist Church and Weaver’s Needle RV Resort in the Phoenix area. He is predeceased by his wife and love of his life, Dixie A. Knowles.
Joe is survived by his sons, Paul Knowles (Nicole Storto), Jack Knowles (Martha Alvarez), brothers, Harold (Anna), David (Ernestine), and John (Sherry), sisters, Carolyn Fauber, Dianne Burnett (Joe) and Shelby (James) Seay, two grandchildren, Kendra Williams and Zachary Knowles, six great grandchildren (Kyla, Aleiza, Isaac, Mia, Camilla and Andrea) who will miss their Papa Joe, as well as numerous nieces and nephews that will also miss Uncle Joe and his wonderful spirit. Joe was a beloved member of the Montessa community in Gold canyon and the family would like to extend their thanks and appreciation for their support.
A funeral service will be held at Sunland Mortuary in Sun City, AZ on December 17th at 1 pm. All family arrangements are under the care of Sunland Mortuary. Due to the need for health and safety precautions during this time of pandemic, funeral services at Sunland will be open to family only. All safety protocols including masking and social distancing will be observed at the service and graveside. The service and pre-recorded memorials will be live streamed via Facebook through the Sunland dignity website.
