Joyce was born to Gerrit and Ruth Barger on June 29, 1933, in New York City. After graduating from Penn State, she worked in Consumer Affairs at the Whirlpool Company, a consulting firm.
She married her husband, Hans Loding, in 1973. They moved to the Phoenix area in the late 1980’s and ran a successful jewelry store for many years.
After retirement, Joyce and Hans enjoyed going on multi-week cruises to locations in Europe and Asia, including one trip around the world. Joyce’s delight in travel echoed the traveling she did as a child, when her family lived in places like Argentina, Java, Columbia, and Mexico because of her father’s work.
Joyce was predeceased by her parents, her sister Shirley (Leonard) Gumley, her brother Gerrit (Annette) Barger, her husband Hans Loding, and her niece Lisa Gumley. Joyce is survived by her beloved niece Laura Barger, her nephew David (Suzanne) Gumley, her great-niece Melissa Gumley, her Niece by marriage, Ursula (Uschi) Zenker and her Godson, Ryan Zenker.
