After a long illness, Death came to Julian at 10:48pm on December 31, 2010, at Hospice of the Valley, Sun City PCU, in Peoria, Arizona. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Nora Bonora Mastrine, five grandsons - Jason, Bradley, Beau, Seth, and Erich, ten great-grandchildren, brother-in-law Victor Bonora from Lincoln Park, Michigan, and many nephews and nieces. He is preceded in death by his seven brothers, one sister, and sons Barry and Timothy.
Julian was born on May 24, 1921, in Ernest, Indiana County, Pennsylvania. He attended primary school in Colver, Pennsylvania, and graduated in 1939 from Ebensburg-Cambria High School in Ebensburg, PA. Several classes in Bituminous coal mining at Penn State University were taken later in life.
Julian was a soft-coal miner, having worked in both Pennsylvania and Ohio mines after his high school graduation. In 1942, he enlisted in the Marine Corp, and served in the South Pacific until the end of World War II. He was honorably discharged on August 10, 1945.
He and his wife, Nora, came to Sun City from Orrville, Ohio in 1979 and immediately began enjoying the beautiful lifestyle of Sun City living. He was a member of St Joachim and St Anne’s Roman Catholic Church, where he took an active role in the Mens’ Club, St Vincent de Paul, and sang in the church choir for 15 years. He held membership in the Sun City Players’ Club - having been honored for 25 years of active membership, and performed in their productions of Kiss Me Kate and Oklahoma!. He was a member of several silver-craft and lapidary clubs in which he served as President and instructor. Some of his favorite hobbies included golf, playing Bridge and other card games, singing, bike-riding, swimming, traveling, and cruising, plus an occasional visit to the casino. He was proud of having been a Marine, a member of the local Marine Corp League, the VFW, American Legion, and Sun City Democratic Club. He crafted and presented both President Clinton and Senator Kerry with sterling silver bolas in the shape of Arizona. He was a great host at parties, fun-loving, liked people - and all-in-all was loved by all and will be missed by many.
