Larry William Assenheimer

Larry was born on December 5, 1943 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He was one of triplets born to Gerhard and Gertrude Assenheimer of Elm Grove, WI. Being triplets made the family something of a local sensation with a local dairy and diaper company keeping the babies well supplied and newspapers following their story.

As a very young boy, Larry had an adventurous spirit. In 1956, he won the Milwaukee area Soap Box Derby and competed in the world championships in Akron, Ohio, an accomplishment that reflected his determination and competitive nature he carried throughout the rest of his life.

Larry graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater and after graduation remained in the Milwaukee area, helping manage the family lumber business. Later Larry made the move to Arizona where he built a successful career in accounting, serving in several positions before retiring.

Larry’s interests in life reached far beyond his profession. He was an avid lover of automobiles and treasured his restored Volkswagen convertible and 1929 Model A Ford sedan which he proudly drove in holiday parades through Munds Park. He also earned his pilot’s license, experiencing the freedom and excitement of flight.

Larry loved bringing people together for meals. He was known for his homemade pastas and sausage and his homemade wine. His lively parties, warm hospitality and love of entertaining created lasting memories for family and friends alike. He was assisted by his partner Pat in his hosting duties.

Those who knew Larry knew how deeply he loved dogs. Their companionship brought him tremendous happiness throughout his life. His entrepreneurial spirit even led him to breed and raise St. Bernards and own many bull dogs over the years, and to create his own homemade wine label, appropriately called Bull Dog Winery. A tribute to his creativity and affection for his faithful companions.

One of Larry’s talents was cultivated by his mother who taught him to knit. He enjoyed making sweaters, scarves and baby blankets, a hobby that reflected his creativity and willingness to embrace something unique.

Larry cherished the people he loved. He valued family, lifelong friendships, and the joy of spending time with those close to him. This was evidenced in his being a dependable presence to look after and care for his Mother, his Father, his grandfather and his aunt Gladys.

He is survived by his lifelong partner, Pat Fidazzo, his older brother, Richard, and his triplet siblings Lee Assenheimer (Peg Tillford) and Lynn Boston as well as his niece and nephews Juliane (Chad) Hayashi, Scott (Kelly) Assenheimer, Julie (Chris) Stelse, Lori Steven’s, Cynthia (Jeff) Dillon, and Marc (Jessica) Boston and 14 beloved grand nieces and nephews.
