

LORENZO ANTHONY (TONY) GUNN III, 57, of San Diego, California and Goodyear, Arizona, passed away on June 30th, 2022. Lorenzo was born on April 5, 1965 in San Diego, California to parents Lorenzo and Vessie Gunn (Williams). He was their second child. Tony became a loving and proud father to Lorenzo Anthony Gunn IV. Their strong bond was supported by undeniable love.They shared many interests, adventures and memorable times. Tony was always proud to be Lorenzo’s father. Tony’s interests included sports, music, singing, and spending time with his family and friends. He spent many years dedicated to perfecting his team mentality and to his craft. After graduating from Lincoln High School (San Diego, California), Tony would attend the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) and Baker University in Baldwin City, Kansas with a full football scholarship. He studied communications and won numerous awards including the 1984 California Bowl; this team was inducted into the UNLV football Hall of Fame. While attending Baker University, Tony met his soon-to-be-wife, Cheryl Green. Though their marriage ended, Tony and Cheryl remained close until the day he departed. Tony later earned a position on the San Diego Chargers and the United States Football League. Tony was a proud team member at Discount Tire Company for over 20 years. As time went by, he worked his way up to store manager and trained many members of the Discount Tire Family. In 1996, he wed Sharon Lowe. She became the love of Tony’s life and he was a phenomenal husband and they shared an unbreakable bond. Tony was a force of nature. He provided for his family and friends, was full of love and compassion, and helped so many. Family meant more to Tony than anything else in the world, something he often mentioned. Tony ALWAYS said, “I love you” and ALWAYS meant those words. Tony was extremely funny, had an infectious smile, and was loved by those who knew him. No matter where he went or who he met, he was cherished and well respected. Anyone who knew Tony knew that he was the most loving husband, father, son, brother, family member, and friend anyone could ask for. Tony was predeceased by his father, Lorenzo Gunn II. He leaves to celebrate his life and cherish his memory: wife - Sharon; mother - Vessie Williams (John); second mother - Olga Gunn; son - Lorenzo IV; brothers - Kevin, Quino, and James; sister - Gina Shawntaye; uncle - Ron Nix; aunts - Deborah Malbrough (Kenneth) and Wanda Granger (Harold). Special cousins - James (Chaundra), Chelsea (Micheal), Kendra, Derrick, and Arianna; Proud Uncle to - Desiree, Deshanay, Kevin Jr., Christian, Faith, Christopher, Hayden, Jordan, and Jimmy. Tony will be missed by a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, co-workers, team members, and a plethora of friends that were considered family. The family asks that you honor Tony's legacy by spending time with your family, with your friends, and loved ones. Tell these people that you love them and tell them often.
A memorial & celebration of life for Lorenzo will be held Saturday, August 6, 2022 from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Sunland Mortuary Lakeside Chapel, 15826 Del Webb Blvd., Sun City, AZ.
