Marcia went to Heaven early in the morning of July 21, 2026. This was a blessing. She had been in terrible pain since March 3 after a back surgery. The following is a recap of her life. She was my best friend, wife and partner.
Marcia was the daughter of Harold and Edith Ball Levinson of Indianapolis. I met Marcia the first day she arrived at Ball State. My fraternity carried in the suitcases for arriving freshman. A perky, cute girl jumped out of a white Cadillac. Her dad said take care of her, so we dated for 5 years before our marriage on June 17, 1966.
Marcia was always a leader, including President of PAL club at Broad Ripple High School, President of Alpha Chi Omega at Ball State, President of the American Women's Club of the Hague and the Boss of the companies we owned. One of her proudest moments was being on the Ball State Homecoming Queen Court.
I was in the Air Force in San Antonio. Marcia, who always wanted to be a social worker, picked out an apartment across the street from the Red Cross where she was employed as a social worker. The apartment building had 6 Generals and me as a 2nd Lieutenant.
We were transferred to Brindisi, Italy and Marcia was the kindergarten teacher until Mark joined our lives on June 18, 1969. Marcia loved Italy, and we had special Roman and San Marino friends.
From Italy we had the opportunity to go to Boston. We enjoyed Boston in the summer. On December 24, 1970, during a giant snowstorm, Kimberly was born in the Framingham hospital.
A promotion to New York let us rehab our cheap home in Montclair, New Jersey. Shortly after, we were promoted back to Italy. We loved Italia. Marcia became fluent in Italian, learning from a local grocer. Her parents would come visit, and Marcia and I visited most of Europe.
Unfortunately, my career led us to Holland. The kids were in a great American School, and Marcia had time to become the President of the very large American Women's Club.
After 4 years in Holland, we were back in Cincinnati and then Chicago where we, and I mean we, ran our transportation businesses. The business required continual international travel and wore us out. We decided to retire and join Marcia's mom in Sun City, AZ. The retirement did not last long. Marcia and I became one of the Top Real Estate Teams in the retirement communities for many years.
It was a great life with Marcia.
