Melvin was a US Air Corps veteran during World War II. He married Phyllis (Neff) Garrett and they moved from Charles City, Iowa to Arizona in 1992.
Melvin will be missed by his wife Phyllis Neff; two daughters, Patricia Garrett and Carla Johnson; and grandchildren, Matthew (Michelle) Johnson and Rebecca Johnson. He was preceded in death by his parents.
