Melvin Edward Schlunz was born on March 15, 1937 to William and Anna (Barrons) Schlunz. Growing up in Hazel Park, Michigan with his brothers Bud, Walter, Jerry and his sister Sharon. Melvin would meet and fall in love with Lynne Grace Fournier of Ferndale, MI and the two were married in 1958. They spent 62 happy and loving years together until Melvin’s beautiful wife Lynne passed away in December of 2020. They had two children Donna (Schlunz) Bergstrom and Mark (Diane) Schlunz, four grandchildren Chad, Katie (Ryan), Melinda (Mike), and Matthew, and five great grandchildren Miranda, Marcus, Morgan, Madison, and Micah.
Melvin was an avid golfer since the age of 12 achieving a hole in one once during his retirement in Arizona. He was a member of Knights of Columbus in his 40’s in Michigan and during retirement in Arizona he was a member of the Elk’s. Some of Melvin’s enjoyment was spent in Lexington on the shore of Lake Huron surrounded by family and friends.
Melvin retired from the Ford Sterling Heights Axle Plant after 30 years of service with Ford Motor company, working his way up from Apprentice Machine Tool Repairman up to Section Supervisor of Engineering. In 1969 Melvin joined the Rochester Fire Department as a Volunteer Fireman serving his community for over a decade.
