Michele "Mickey" Nemchin (née Stein), age 84, passed away peacefully on June 23, 2026, in Surprise, Arizona, after a difficult and hard-fought battle with dementia. At the time of her passing, she was surrounded by the love of her family and the peaceful care of those who loved her.
Born in Brooklyn, NY, Mickey was the daughter of the late Sarah (Sylvia) Friedberg and Benjamin Stein.
Her life was strengthened by her marriage to her devoted husband, Jack. Together, they shared 65 extraordinary years of marriage, building a life founded on being direct, mutual understanding, and love. Mickey’s strength and attitude were known to all.
Before settling in Arizona, Mickey and Jack spent decades building their life and family on Long Island, NY. It was there that they raised their sons, David Scott and Randy G. Jack and Mickey made many lifelong friends there and continued to this day even after leaving New York for Jack's role at Wonder Bread in Akron, Ohio. Upon retirement, they moved to Surprise, AZ, to make their mark on their community through Mickey's unforgettable personality and attitude.
Mickey was preceded in death by her two sisters, Marylyn (husband, Stan), and her closest sister, Ruby (husband, Harry).
She is survived by her loving husband, Jack; her devoted family members: David and his wife Holly, and Randy and his wife Erika. She leaves behind her cherished grandchildren, Kylie, Brett, Brooke, Zack, Jucosta, and Tiffany, and her great-granddaughter, Michele. A piece of Mickey will always remain with her niece Bari, with whom she shared a most special relationship. Her memory also lives on through Patrick, Michael, Bennett, Keith, and Deborah, along with Sarah (husband, David), Harris, and Garret.
Mickey adored her friends and family on Long Island, NY, with whom she remained close, returning to visit them whenever she could. She was a pillar of strength and a guiding influence for her extended family in New York. Throughout her life, she cared for her family and her in-laws in an incredible, deeply devoted way.
The family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude to the staff who provided tender, dignified care during her final journey.
A service to honor her life and legacy will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, June 29, 2026, at Sunland Mortuary, 15826 N. Del Webb Blvd., Sun City, AZ 85351. Her loving family in New York will also hold a memorial service at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mickey's honor to the Lou Gehrig (ALS) Association or the American Heart Association.
