Robert E Burdette

Sun City West, AZ. Robert (Bob) Edgar Burdette, age 97, previously of Fairfield, CT and Cherry Hill, NJ, beloved husband of Miriam (Savage) Burdette entered peaceful rest on Monday, August 25, 2025 with his wife by his side. Born in New Haven, CT on February 20, 1928 he was the son of the late Frederic and Rose (Kneuer) Burdette. He graduated from the University of Connecticut with his Bachelor’s degree and went on to get his Master’s Degree from Fairfield University in Fairfield, CT. In education for over 40 years, Bob had a fitting profession for someone who valued education so highly. He started his career at East Haven High School in CT as a science and math teacher. He then went on to become a guidance counselor and assistant principal at Brian McManhon High School in Norwalk, CT. In 1964 Bob accepted the position of Assistant Superintendent of Schools in Fairfield, CT and later ended his career in education as principal of Cherry Hill West High School in Cherry Hill, NJ.

An avid reader, Bob liked spending time reading, especially non-fiction books regarding history and WWII. He also enjoyed attending and ushering at the Phoenix Opera and was a valued member of the Sun City West Posse where he assisted with traffic control and gave home safety courses. He loved to drive, especially on the open roads of Arizona. Most of all Bob loved spending time with his family.

In addition to his beloved wife of 54 years, who joined her husband in peaceful rest just hours after he passed, Bob leaves behind his loving daughters and sons, Deborah Sherman of Smithtown, NY; Sharon (Burdette) Simon of Oxford, CT; Jan-Michael Sherman of San Diego, CA and Wayne Burdette of Shelton, CT and his cherished granddaughter Claire Sherman of Providence, RI. Bob was predeceased by his beloved granddaughter Justine (Simon) Grueb of Seymour, CT, his dear son-in-law John Simon of Oxford, CT and his adored brother Frederic Burdette of East Haven, CT. Bob was a devoted husband, father and grandfather and was loved by all who knew him. We are all so blessed to have been a part of his life.

Family and friends are invited to attend his funeral service which will be held at Sunland Memorial Park, Mortuary & Crematory, located at 15826 North Del Webb Blvd, Sun City, AZ, 85351. The service is scheduled for September 5, 2025, from 12:30 pm to 1:30 pm.

Following the funeral service, a committal will take place at Sunland Memorial Park, also at 15826 Del Webb Blvd, Sun City, Arizona, 85351. The committal is scheduled for September 5, 2025, from 1:30 pm to 2:00 pm
