Robert was born in Perham, Minnesota to John and Angela Durrenberger. He served his country during WWII in the United States Army Air Corps and was honorably discharged as a Major.
Bob studied at Moorhead State University, Cal Tech and earned his MA from the University of Wisconsin and his Ph.D from UCLA.
He was a College Professor for the University of Kentucky, then at Cal State Northridge. In 1971, he and his family moved to Arizona where he became a full time professor of Geography at Arizona State University. While there, he established the Arizona State Climate Office
In retirement, Bob enjoyed golfing with friends, playing bridge and life at Royal Oaks Retirement Community.
He is preceded in death by his son, Dan Durrenberger. Bob is survived by his beloved wife of 66 years, Bernadine A. Durrenberger and his daughter, Mary Ann Marasco and her husband, Mike, 3 grandchildren, Dylan Marasco, Amy Armstrong (Patrick) and Kristen Gowen-MacDonald (William), and 2 beautiful grandchildren, Emily and Taylor Armstong.
