

Roberta "Bobbie" Louise Chapman passed away peacefully on the 6th of October at Hospice of the Valley, Ryan House, Phoenix, AZ. Bobbie was born in Tsingtao, China in 1929. Her father, Robert (deceased), was a U.S. Navy sailor stationed on a ship operating in Chinese waters for several months. Her mother, Ethel (deceased), who was pregnant at the time, was given special permission by the Department of the Navy to accompany her husband to China where Bobbie was born. That was just the beginning of the many journeys she would embark in her adult years. She resided in the San Diego, CA area (Pacific Beach) much of her youth. Bobbie’s Navy heritage continued for most of her remaining years as she married a Navy sailor, Chuck (deceased), who served his country for 30 years. Bobbie and Chuck raised three boys (Charly – deceased, John and Donald) during his many duty assignments in San Diego, CA, Fort Worth, TX, San Francisco, CA, Key West, FL, Washington, DC, and Solomons, MD. Bobbie served as a volunteer in support of Navy families during Chuck’s Navy career. She also worked in various administrative positions with Naval Oceanographic in Suitland, MD and the Naval Ordnance Lab Recreation Center in Solomons, MD. After Chuck retired from the Navy, they lived in Solomons, MD (20 years), Vancouver Island, British Columbia (2 years) and Zwolle, LA (5 years) before settling in Arizona in 1994. Bobbie is survived by her sister, Gertrude Petrovitz; sons John (Vicky) and Donald (Lynn); daughter-in-law Susan Chapman; grandchildren Cline Chapman, Autumn (Michael) Bellman, Austin (Dawn) Chapman, Alison Custer, Zachary Chapman, and Jason (Dawn) Couisine; and great grandchildren Edie, Luke and Jade Chapman, Ian and Elliot Bellman, Skyler and Hope Chapman, Ashton and Grant Custer, Carinne and Ivan Couisine, and many nieces and nephews. Bobbie was a loving and giving wife, mother and grandmother. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, October 19, 2016, at 10:30 AM at the Sunland Memorial Park Chapel, 15826 Del Webb Blvd, Sun City, AZ 85351.
