He attended grade school in Scottsdale Arizona, his family moved back to Texas for a spell and returned to Arizona where he graduated from Scottsdale High School. He married the love of his life, Brenda Lee Flatt on June 15, 1969 in Scottsdale Arizona. Crutch worked as a second-generation journeyman plumber local 469 for Slusher plumbing, Scottsdale plumbing, then finally with Tiger Plumbing. Crutch retired from plumbing after 35 plus years of hard work. He enjoyed retirement for about 5 minutes before working part time at Home Depot as a Plumbing Specialist.
Crutch was jack-of-all-trades. Anything he could do with his hands, he did. He loved woodworking, leather tooling, camping, softball and hunting. Many of us have benefited from Crutch's many talents. Some of you may have a special phone holder, wallet, booties, keychain or gun holster that Crutch crafted from leather. Crutch LOVED to camp. He loved being outside. One of his favorite places was Yellowstone National Park. Hunting was another pastime he enjoyed. He was fortunate enough to harvest 3 cow elk in the last 7 years with his daughter and son-in-law. The one thing he loved to do the most was watch his grandkids in their sports. His grandson Peyton plays hockey, and even though Crutch didn't know anything about it, he was there for the games and practices and loudly cheered for #13. His granddaughter Hailey currently plays softball at Phoenix College. If he hadn’t already told you, she got a scholarship to go there, and he was just a little proud of her for that. He would frequently strike up a conversation with someone just so he could slide that little bit of information in.
He was a Papa to all the kids whether they were his own blood or not, that just didn't make a difference to him. He would be at Darian's volleyball games or Kelci and Hailey's softball games in high school and just about the entire team knew him as Papa Crutch. His grandson's hockey team is the same, he was just Papa Crutch to them all. He would even volunteer his veins to the medical assistants in training at Estrella community college where his oldest granddaughter attended. She and her friends would all get to practice on Papa.
Crutch was a long time member of the Church of Christ. He was a deacon at Scottsdale Church of Christ until it closed. Then attended Black Canyon for many years before making his move to Surprise where he was an active member at West Olive Church of Christ.
He was also a member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans.
Crutch was preceded in death by his parents Glen Woodrow and Marie Crutchfield.
He is survived by his wife of 49 1/2 years Brenda Crutchfield, his son Ron Jr and his wife Krissi, his daughter Becky and her husband Shon, his older sister Phyllis and her husband JL, his grandchildren: granddaughter Darian and husband Nic, granddaughter Kelci and husband Cori, granddaughter Hailey and grandson Peyton. Crutch also had two great grandchildren, Parker and Braelynn
