Roy Albert Centner, 87, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 17, 2013, in Glendale, AZ. He was born April 17, 1925, in Chicago, IL to John L. and Birdie Centner. Roy served in the US Army in WW II and received a Purple Heart for wounds received on Anzio Beach in Italy. He later trained and worked 40 years as a watchmaker and jeweler. He owned stores in Sedona, Flagstaff, and Phoenix. Across the years, Roy provided community service as a volunteer ambulance driver, search and rescue worker, fire fighter and reserve policeman. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Sun City West. Roy instilled his love for nature and outdoor activities in his five sons: Roy (deceased, wife Dona); Tom (Linda); Jim; Lee (Julie); and Robert (Viola). A sixth baby, Patrick, is deceased. In addition to his sons, Roy is also survived by Pat, his wife of 46 years, and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. Roy was a fun-loving guy who will be remembered for his great delight in teasing others and making them laugh. Services will be held at 3:00 PM on Monday, March 25, in the Chapel at Sunland Memorial Park and Mortuary, 15826 N. Del Webb Blvd., Sun City, AZ 85351.
