Samuel "Sam" Pignato, 94 passed away April 21, 2022 with his family by his side. Sam was born May 3, 1927 in Rochester, New York where he lived until age 14. The family eventually settled in the early 1940’s in Tucson, AZ. In May of 1945, he enlisted and served in the US Navy through the last days of the war and was honorably discharged in 1946.
He returned to Tucson and work with his father and brother in the family barber shop. In 1954, he met Joayne and immediately knew she was the one for him. They were married shortly thereafter and remained deeply in love until the day he passed away, over 68 years later. In the late 1950’s Sam and Joayne moved with their two young children to Los Angeles for a job opportunity and then back to the Phoenix area in the early 1960’s to be closer to family. In retirement, Sam and Joayne traveled all over the country with close friends and usually a couple of grandchildren in tow.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Joayne; his daughter, Natalie McWhorter (Bruce) of Peoria, AZ: his son, Sam Pignato (Kelly) of Phoenix, AZ; 6 grandchildren and 14 (soon to be 15) great-grandchildren.
Sam will always be remembered for his love of his wife Joayne, his family and friends, and his country.
