

Shirlee Metzger, 84, of Akron, OH died Fri. May 25 in her retirement health center of Royal Oaks in Sun City, AZ. She beautifully raised 5 children who were with her during her final days: Sandy Miller, and Diane, Mike, Jim, and Anni Magyary. Also survived by 7 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. She was a widow of her soulmate and business partner Frank Magyary, and then later a widow of her second loving husband George Metzger, with surviving stepdaughters Ellen Sanders and Maryanne Duncan.
While in Akron, she graduated from Kenmore high school, was a member of St. Sebastian Altar Society, Hoban High Mother’s Club, Our Lady of Elms Parents Assoc, and worked 7 years at Goodyear Bank in Highland Square.
Shirlee had courage, endurance, and a wonderful sense of humor. Filled with compassion, she was a champion for the working class and civil rights. She never hesitated to voice and act upon her beliefs of fairness and honesty, and always exercised her right to vote. Shirlee enjoyed playing golf and bridge, kept up with current events, was an avid fiction book reader anda talented seamstress in her younger years. She always had a flair for style and fashion.
The Phoenix Suns and Arizona Diamond Backs certainly lost a huge fan!
A funeral mass will be held for Shirlee in her home town of Akron, OH Sat, Aug. 11, followed by a celebration of her life with family and friends at Holy Cross cemetery.
