The booming town of Ironwood, Tim’s parents, aunts, uncles, cousins, and of course his little brother, all helped mold this amazing young man. Timmy, as he was fondly called, grew up with all of these marvelous individuals until he moved away for college.
Tim graduated from Northern Michigan University in 1964 with a Bachelor's Degree in Education. Soon after, Tim moved to Mt. Clemens, Michigan to start his lifelong teaching profession.
After working for a few years, Tim met his stunning wife, Cheryl, and they were married on October 8th, 1971. This was the beginning of the many adventures they would have in their nearly 49 years of marriage. After a few exciting years as husband and wife, they had two incredible children who would keep them busy for years to come.
To say that Tim had more than one passion would be an understatement. Not only was he an educator who inspired hundreds of students, he was also involved in the community. Tim stepped in to build scout troops, soccer organizations, ski groups, and community events.
He was a lover of the arts and supported the theater by creating costumes, designing and painting stage sets, and being the makeup artist. During this time, he was also heavily involved in Boy Scouts and coached soccer for many years.
After retiring from teaching, he moved to Arizona in 1998. Tim was not meant to retire in Michigan and continued to involve himself in his new community. He decided to work at a senior living facility and coordinated many events. He then joined the Sunland Memorial crew and shared his compassion for family and friends because he knew that life should truly be celebrated.
During his 22 years in Arizona, Tim continued to work in schools, inspire countless students, and support visiting students from other countries as a leader in the foreign exchange program.
There are endless stories to tell about Tim, ranging from the most outrageous adventures to the most heartfelt conversations. He was known for his charisma, quick wit, infectious smile, his kind and compassionate spirit, and don’t forget that giggle.
Tim was preceded in death by his father, Ray Hulstrom and mother, Mary Hulstrom Abbott. He is survived by wife Cheryl, two children Chris (Terri) Hulstrom and Nicki (John) Grubb, five grandchildren Molly, Ella, Caleb, Avrie, and Hailey, his brother Jack Hulstrom, 4 nephews, two aunts, and several cousins.
