With deep sorrow and heavy hearts, we would like to share the passing of the strongest person we know, our beloved Vickie Hornbuckle, who left us peacefully, surrounded by her family on January 14, 2025. She was the heart and soul of our family, a woman whose laughter could light up a room and whose love knew no bounds.
Vickie was preceded in death by her parents Don and June Kepley, her mother and father-in-law Marge and Harold Hornbuckle, her brother-in-law Mike McGowan, and many cherished friends who were fortunate enough to have known her warmth. She leaves behind an unfillable void in the hearts of her loving husband of 57 years Richard, her children Kim and Mike, Chad and Riann, Jason and Jen, and her favorites Chris and Teresa. Grandchildren; Maddison (Matthew), Alex (Jane), Jonathan, Alyssa (Dakota), Cassandra (Bailey), Emily, Nick, Parker, Grant (Alexandra), Kaylee, and Carly. Great Granddaughter Victoria and one more on the way. Siblings Ross and Heidi and Bruce and Glenna, as well as nieces and nephews, each of whom she loved with a fierce and unwavering devotion.
To know Vickie was to experience joy, kindness, a never-ending supply of love, and her colorful vocabulary. She was the life of every gathering, the first to dance, the last to leave, and always the one to make you feel like you were the most important person in the room. Her infectious laughter, sharp wit, and boundless energy made her a treasured friend, a confidante, and a constant source of comfort to those around her.
Vickie’s zest for life was unmatched, and she embraced every day with open arms. Whether she was hosting family dinners, planning family vacations, participating in community events or just sitting on the porch with her loved ones, she made every moment feel special. She had an uncanny ability to make everyone feel welcome, valued, and loved, and her home was always filled with laughter, love, and, of course, her amazing biscuits and gravy or shit on shingles.
Vickie leaves behind a family that is stronger, kinder, and more loving because of her. We will honor her memory by living each day with the same joy, love, and infectious spirit that she shared with all of us.
Rest in peace, Wife, Mom, Nana, Grandma, Neighbor and friend. You will forever be the life of the party in our hearts. May your beer be forever salty, your rum be full of coke, your slot machines be loose and your favorite love language be your middle finger.
A celebration of life will be held in her honor later this year in Clear Lake IA. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation or The National Kidney Foundation in Vickie’s name.
