Yolanda Marie Atkinson, passed away peacefully at the age of 77 following a brief illness on June 15th 2025, in Peoria Arizona.
She was born on January 9, 1948 in Elmsford, New York, the Daughter of John and Rose DiFide. She grew up in Elmsford and eventually settled for a time in White Plains, New York. It was there where Yolanda’s life took an unexpected turn in 1994 when her apartment building was evacuated due to a propane tank explosion nearby. While waiting for the Fire department to clear the area, she had a chance meeting with the man who would go on to be her future husband, Richard Atkinson.
On April 2nd 1995, Yolanda married Richard Atkinson. A second marriage for both, they were a devoted couple who were nearly inseparable over their 29 years together. They enjoyed trips to Las Vegas, spending time with each other, their blended families, and their devoted friends. Their home was a warm, welcome and open place, always filled with music, food and laughter as they devoted many hours to hosting gatherings for family and friends.
Yolanda was known for her warm smile and fiery spirit. She was a loving and caring Grandmother who was quick with laughter and hugs. Among her many interests, Yolanda enjoyed baking, cooking, dancing, rooting for the New York Mets, raising her dogs, and spending time with family and friends. She was preceded in death by her Parents John and Rose; Husband Richard Atkinson, as well as siblings Anne Ricci, Howie DiFede.
We will all miss her spirit, her zest for life, and the many great meals and desserts she was famous for. Yolanda is survived by her Daughter Lorie A. (Alan) Laux; Peoria, AZ; two stepsons, Justin R. (Jennifer) Atkinson; Peoria, AZ; Ryan F. (Marcella) Atkinson; Huntington Station, NY and Sister Barbara Caggino. Grandchildren: Nicholas Parisi; Anthony Parisi; Brianna Melendez; Ella Atkinson; Chelsea Heintz; Theodore Atkinson Great Grandchildren: Cambria Parisi, Carly Parisi, Nora Parisi and Anthony Parisi.
