Barbara James (Trace) passed away peacefully in Surprise, AZ on March 14, 2020 after complications from a stroke. Born in Seattle on May 17, 1940 to Elmer and Dorothy (Alstrom) Trace, she attended Lincoln High School, Whitman College and graduated from the University of Washington. After a lengthy career in Human Resources she retired to her beach house on Whidbey Island, WA. When her kids moved back east, she decided to follow them, but after a winter in Connecticut, decided a warmer climate would be better and became a snowbird in AZ. She enjoyed boating, beach fires, walking the beach and collecting shells, reading, Thanksgiving, snow skiing, Mahjong and her grandkids! Barbara was predeceased by her parents and her husband of 46 years, W. DuWayne James, and is survived by her daughter Tracy Grady and her husband Brendan of MA, and by her son Gary James and his wife Nicole of NJ, as well as her 4 grandchildren, Emily, Lillian, Alex and Will. She is also survived by her siblings, Walter Trace and his wife Sue of WA, and Geraldine (Geri) Wilcox of CA as well as many nieces and nephews and her dog Daisy. Services will be held in Seattle, WA at a later date, yet to be determined.

Dear James Family,

Your dear mother was a fellow classmate at Hamilton and Lincoln. She was an exceptionally sweet and kind person and through the years I have thought about her and the fun we had at football games and having lunch at an umbrella table in front of the school, i.e., when it wasn't raining.

May you be blessed with wonderful memories.
