Dr. Betty Jean (Bowman) Moore Nichols, PHD, was born in Los Angeles, California on April 4, 1927 and passed away on June 22, 2019, while a resident of Grandview Nursing Memory Care unit in Sun City West, Arizona. She was 92 years old and was a lifelong educator; In addition to being a mother, a wife, a homemaker, stepmother, sister, grandmother and great grandmother.
Her 3 daughters from her first marriage to James Moore live in California.
Betty Jean taught speech and reading to prospective teachers at Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas for approximately 3 decades. She left SWTSU as a professor emeritus! She met Chief Master Sergeant George W. Nichols in June of 1983, after his first wife passed away. They had been married for almost 36 years. They lived in Austin, Texas and moved in May of 1999 to Surprise, Arizona where they resided at Arizona Traditions.
The family wishes to thank Suncrest Hospice Services for the compassionate treatment of their patients and family: especially for Betty Jean while she was in the long goodbye. With their care, she passed away peacefully. We would also like to thank the staff at Grandview Care facility for their consistently loving and professional care of Betty Jean.
Betty Jean will be greatly missed by her step children: Penny Nichols Bowden, Glenn Ernst Nichols and Robert Horst Nichols and by her grandchildren in Texas.
She is also survived by her brother, Ralph Bowman who resides in Oregon and she will be greatly missed by him.
