

Carmel Donnelly, born November 29, 1942, to Kathryn and Omer Racine, passed away peacefully on October 14, 2025, with her devoted husband, Michael, by her side. Together they shared a lifetime of love, faith, and family. Both were devout Catholics who believed deeply in eternal life and the promise of being reunited in God’s presence.
Carmel was raised in Detroit, Michigan, alongside her siblings Omer, Vernon, and Marjorie. Her early years were marked by a love of family and a curiosity that stayed with her throughout her life. She married Michael Donnelly on October 3, 1964, and together they later moved to Westland, Michigan, where they raised their family, before eventually retiring in Surprise, Arizona.
She began college pursuing a nursing degree before discovering the most important vocation a person can embrace, that of a mother. She devoted her life to raising her three sons: Joseph, Thomas, and Christopher. Her love for them was unwavering, and she took great pride in the men they became.
Carmel was blessed with ten grandchildren, Ian, Jack, Madison, Caitlin, Erin, Allysha, Breeland, Kem, Carter, and Liam, each of whom brought her immeasurable joy. She cherished every visit, every phone call, and every story shared around the table.
A woman of quiet strength, Carmel had a deep passion for researching her family’s history. She spent countless hours uncovering generations of stories, photographs, and connections that strengthened her sense of faith and heritage. Her research was not just a hobby but an act of love, preserving the roots that bound her family together.
Her connections went beyond family and extended to her vast network of friends. Many began in childhood and were nurtured throughout her life. From camping and canoeing to gleaning her friendships grew. Her nearly 20 years of serving others through gleaning fostering more friendships and a dedication to serving those around her.
Those who knew Carmel will remember her warmth, compassion, and gentle humor. She approached life with grace, faith, and an unshakable devotion to those she loved. Her family takes comfort in knowing she is now at peace, reunited with loved ones who have gone before her, and resting in the arms of the Lord she served so faithfully.
May she rest in God’s eternal light and love.
