Caryl Louise Carney, 84, peacefully passed away on September 12, 2026. She was born in Spokane, Washington, on April 6, 1942, to her loving parents, Jemima and Kenneth Brinnon. In her first semester at Everett College in Washington State, she met the love of her life at just 18 years old, and she went on to share 52 1/2 years of marriage with Mick. In later years, she resided in Surprise, Arizona.
Caryl was, in every sense, beloved—known for a kind-hearted spirit, a compassionate presence, and a generosity that made others feel seen and cared for. She carried her faith with quiet steadiness, and her warm humor had a way of lightening even ordinary moments. Above all, she cherished her family, her grandchildren, and her friends, holding them close with a devotion that never wavered.
Caryl is survived by Jeff Carney (son), Kim Carney(daughter in law), Kelli Little (daughter), Steve Little (son in law ), and Mike Brinnon (brother). She is also survived by five grandchildren: Ryan Little, Sean Little and wife Alyssa Little, Lance Carney, Chad Carney, and Jessica Carney-Jaques and husband ParkerJaques; and by three great grandsons—Jackson (5yrs), Casey (3 yrs), and Cooper (1 1/2 months old)—who brought her immeasurable joy.
Her life was enriched by enduring friendships, including the rare gift of sharing more than 70 years with her two best friends, Lori and Di, beginning in junior high school. She found happiness in gardening flowers in her yard, and she treasured traveling to Hawaii on many occasions with Mick and her children. Walks on the beach and beautiful sunsets were among the simple wonders she loved most, and music never failed to bring a smile to her face.
Caryl worked in the travel industry as a receptionist, and her caring nature extended naturally into service. She was a greeter at church and a facilitator for several grief groups, offering comfort and steadiness to others in tender seasons of life. She also found great joy in participating in a “cookie bake” for a couple years to benefit Children’s Hospital in Seattle—an expression of her generous heart in action.
She often shared, with unmistakable pride, that she was a grandmother of five—and if you had a moment, she would gladly show a picture or two. Becoming a great grandmother was, to her, the ultimate experience. Caryl will be remembered for her beautiful smile, her big heart, and her remarkable ability to talk to anyone for any length of time. Her love and influence will remain in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered always.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Hospice of the Valley in Surprise Arizona for bringing not only Caryl, but the entire family, so much comfort during an extremely difficult time.
Caryl is forever loved, forever missed, forever remembered. Her love remains our greatest gift, and her memory will live on in our hearts for all our days. We were all blessed.
