It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of Charles (Chuck) Barkus on February 27, 2022, in Surprise, Arizona, at the age of 82. He was the beloved husband of Nancy, father to Steven (Kris), the late Mark (Ruthie), and Jason. He was a loving grandfather of 7, Samantha, Autumn, Jennifer (Cory) Carpenter, Brittany (Dylan) Kwiatkowski, Kimberly, Lauren and Kara, and great-grandfather of William and Hannah Carpenter. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Marian, his brother Stephen (Karen) and sister Karen (Dave) Stoklosa.
He was born on May 26, 1939 and raised in Chicago, Illinois. He was a 35 year employee of United Resin and Henkel Adhesives. Toward the end of his career he and Nancy relocated to Surprise, Arizona where he made many friends both on and off the golf course.
He would frequently walk the grocery store aisles checking out packaging and labeling used in all the products. His love of the adhesives business never left him. His friends in Arizona called him "Glue Chuck" but after retirement, that was changed to "Mustang Chuck" in reference to his beloved red Mustang. His greatest loves after family and friends were planes, trains, and automobiles of any vintage. He and his brother, sons, and friends would go to as many car shows, air shows, and train museums as time would allow.
As a joke, Chuck often checked the obituaries in the newspaper just to make sure his name wasn't there. He would not be surprised to find it there now as his health problems had turned critical in recent weeks.
A Memorial Gathering will be planned for a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate contributions to the charity of your choice.
