Claire was the third of four children, raised in a loving home alongside her siblings by her parents, Bill & Vera Janthor. She graduated from Matawan High School in Matawan, New Jersey.
Over the years, Claire brought steady professionalism and quiet excellence to her work, serving for several years as the Executive secretary of a Medical Supply company in New Jersey. Following her husband’s reassignment to Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, she worked as the Executive Assistant to the Vice President of Hallmark. After the birth of her son, Claire chose to devote herself fully to raising her children—an enduring reflection of her selfless love and steadfast devotion to family.
Claire is survived by her husband, Bob; they would have been married for 44 years in September. She is also survived by her two children and six grandchildren: Michael (Cincinnati, OH), married to Amy (nee Baverman), and their children William (10) and Hannah (7); and Elizabeth (Westfield, IN), married to Nick Baker, and their children Mackenzie (9), Addison (7), Luke (4), and Charles (2). Claire was preceded in death by her parents, Bill & Vera Janthor, and her siblings Joan, Jane, and William.
A creative spirit with a generous heart, Claire was a prolific crafter who made decorative wreaths and other collectible items. Her true passion, however, was card making—birthday cards, holiday cards, get well cards, all-occasion cards, and any kind of card someone hoped she could create. Many will remember the warmth of time spent with her in her craft room, especially as she tried to teach her granddaughters, who would sit nearby and watch her bring each card to life with care, patience, and unmistakable joy.
Claire’s faith remained a guiding presence throughout her life. She was a member of St Mary’s Catholic church in Grafton, Ohio. More recently, she was a member of St Claire’s Catholic Church and then Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Surprise, AZ.
Claire will be remembered as a generous and caring person who knew how to enjoy life and share laughter along the way. She loved having a good time and playing card games with her friends, and her humor and kindness were often felt in the simplest moments. Above all, she was a loving mother who consistently placed her children’s needs before her own, leaving a legacy of devotion, grace, and giving.
The family would like to express heartfelt thanks to Michael and Elizabeth; to Bob’s brothers Tom and Jack; and to close friends Stan & Linda Zochowski, Marie & Dave Pintera, and Ann Diana. The family also extends sincere gratitude to ReUnion Rehabilitation Hospital and Sante Skilled Nursing Facility for the loving care they provided.
She did it her way!
A Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, August 11, 2026 at 10 AM at Surprise Funeral Care, 16063 W Bell Rd, Surprise, AZ 85374.
