Dan was born April 18, 1950 in Marshall, Minnesota, the third child of seven to Ben and Alice Burczek (VanLeberghe). He grew up in Dawson, Minnesota where he was a boy scout and paperboy. He was in the Class of 69’ in Dawson and was in the Army National Guard in Madison, Minnesota before starting his lifelong career as an insurance auto claims adjuster.
The three loves in his life were family, football – a proud Minnesota Viking and Denver Bronco fan - and food. He also enjoyed music, cars and gardening. Dan always had a joke to tell and never met a person he couldn’t start a conversation with. He loved gathering friends and family together and would showcase his hard work around the home; whether that was his work on landscaping and gardening or a grand holiday centerpiece he proudly designed for the Thanksgiving table.
He married the love of his life Susan Kay Aaberg on November 25, 1978 in Astoria, South Dakota and together they moved to Denver, Colorado where they lived for 38 years before retiring to Buckeye, Arizona. He was someone who loved life and had a strong understanding of what was important and for him it was the simplicity of living life and being with those he loved. He was especially proud of his greatest accomplishments in life, his four sons.
He is survived in legacy by his wife Susan and their two children Deon Burczek (Katie) and Devin Burczek (Jenn Lechuga); two sons from his first marriage Mike Burczek (Randy) and Chris Burczek (Jaime); his father Ben Burczek; grandchildren Colin, Lindsey, Blake, Grant, Dillon, Peyton, Dawson, Carter and Duncan; siblings Carol Cottle, Sharon Hardy, Dave Burczek and Duane Burczek and will be fondly remembered by many beloved aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family and many good friends.
He is preceded in death by his brothers Lenus and Gary and his mother Alice.
A viewing will be held at Surprise Funeral Home at 16063 W. Bell Road in Surprise, Arizona from 2:00-4:00 p.m. with a funeral service immediately following.
A celebration of life will be planned at a future date in Dawson, Minnesota.
